National Fullbore Captain Mahendra Persaud continues to show his class in the world of fullbore shooting with a creditable performance in the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association 132nd Fullbore Rifle Championships.
Competing against over 330 of the best marksmen from Canada, USA and England, Persaud finished 42nd in the Grand Aggregate and 14th in the Governor General’s final which is known as the Patron’s.
Persaud, who led Guyana to both the Short and Long Range titles at the Caribbean Championships held in Jamaica in May and was part of the Guyana team to the Commonwealth Games along with Lennox Braithwaite and Coach Ransford Goodluck, shot scores of 74:9 at 800M and 75:6 at 900M placing 4th but with the combined score of the Patron’s and the President’s, he achieved a total of 297:31 which saw him placing 14th, a very creditable placing.
The top 20 shooters were: Kent Reeve USA – 299:41, Brandon Green USA – 299:35, Justin Hearn Canada – 298:36, John Widden USA – 297:41, James Paton Canada – 297:38, Emma Nuthall UK – 297:37, Bryan Litz USA – 297:34, Nigel Ball UK – 297:34, Dominic De Vere – 297:34, Jon Underwood UK – 297:33, David Armstrong – 297:33, Mark Delcotto – 297:33, Shane Bernhardt – 297:32, Mahendra Persaud Guyana – 297:31, Russell Theurer USA – 297:31, John Frigugiletti USA – 297:31, Alwyn Maclean UK – 297:27, Fazal Mohideen Canada – 296:33, Mike Wong Shui Canada – 296:30, Stuart Young UK – 296:29.
Following are some of Persaud’s scores at the Ottawa Regiment: 800meters – 74:5, Gooderham 500yards – 49:4, Gooderham 600yards – 49:6, Army and Navy Vets – 900meters 71:5, Tilton 300meters – 48:2, Tilton 600yards – 50:4.
Grand Aggregate: MacDougall – 300meters – 47:3, MacDougall – 500yards – 49:5. After day 1, Persaud was 109th place in the Grand Aggregate.
Norman Beckett 300meters – 48:5, Norman Beckett 800meters – 48:5, Col. John Brick 500yards – 50:5, Col John Brick 600yards – 49:4. After day 2 Persaud’s position was 62nd overall.
Letson 300meters – 35:4, Letson 500yards – 35:2, Letson 600yards – 34:1, Alexander of Tunis 900meters – 49:6. President’s 300meters -49:6, President’s 500yards – 49:5, President’s 600yards – 50:5, Gibson 800meters – 49:6.
After day 3, Persaud, was 52nd but with the combined total of the Letson and President’s, his score of 252:23 out of 255 was joint 49th place going into the 50 man Governor General’s final.
