Despite the fact that many believe that the investigation into the execution-style killing of popular costume
designer, Trevor Rose is at a standstill, ‘A’ Division Commander, Clifton Hicken yesterday confirmed that the probe is still ongoing.
The Commander said that his team of high ranking officers is working assiduously to locate the perpetrator and place him behind bars as soon as possible, so that there is some sort of closure for Rose’s family.
Hicken said that at this point, they are developing the investigation based on the information they have been receiving.
“No case is at a standstill…we are developing the investigation like any other high profile matter. It is dependent on the information and the evidence that we gather and then we develop the investigation,” Hicken said.
On January 26, last, Rose, a 33-year-old father of eight, was fatally shot while travelling in the back seat of a car with Latoya Towler, the mother of one of his children, on the Eccles Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Towler was shot to the buttock and the driver of the car, Troy Nieunkerk, an accountant at the Ministry of Home Affairs and a part-time taxi driver, was shot in the left shoulder.
Rose was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) while Nieunkerk and Towler were hospitalized there for a few days.
Nieunkerk, who lives in Diamond, EBD, reportedly told investigators that he was heading home and offered Rose and Towler a lift to Eccles.
While at Eccles, a tinted car, which had been following the trio from Agricola, pulled up alongside Nieunkerk’s vehicle and asked why he was driving so recklessly.
Kaieteur News was further told that the driver of the tinted car parked his vehicle in front of Nieunkerk’s car, exited and opened fire, killing Rose on the spot.
During an interview with this newspaper, Rose’s mother, Lillian Browne had said that her son left home to go out with his girlfriend (not Towler) and returned a little before midnight on January 25, last.
“I was in bed when he came home, so I don’t know if he got a call or what, but he left like an hour after he came home and never came back.”
Ms. Browne said she does not know if her son might have had a problem with anyone and is clueless as to who would want to kill him.
“He has a lot of friends and I know that he is kind of hasty. He would tell people off if he is upset about something,” the mother had told this newspaper. She added though, that she is positive that the killer was after her son, given the fact that he was shot about six times.
On February 18, 2011, Rose was shot and robbed of $2.5M by gunmen hours after launching costumes for Banks DIH Mash Band at the Burnham Basketball Court.
