The battle lines will be drawn this afternoon at the Grove Playfield when the semifinals of the inaugural CULT/East Bank Football Association Under-17 league are contested between the top four teams that have emerged following preliminary play.
Grove Hi Tech, ending as the only unbeaten team during the preliminary stages will come up against Kuru Kururu Warriors who took the fourth and final semi final spot. Grove will be aiming to advance to the championship game as they hunt their second junior title this year having also won the Trophy Stall Under-15 League but they will first have to get past a determined Warriors outfit that can surprise their opponents on the day.
Back to lead Grove would be National Under-17 forward Joel Dick who had to sit out his team’s last game due to a red card. Dick is the leading scorer in the tournament to date with 10 goals and he can be the difference between the two sides today.
Captain Trevor Jones will also be critical for Grove, the defender who is also a handful coming forward had four goals to his credit and along with Mervin Squires, Threvon Pluck and company can be a lot for the Warriors to handle.
The Linden Soesdyke Highway based lads will however not be intimidated and will be coming out blazing as they take the attack to the home team, Joshua Grant and Brian Daniels will lead their charge.
The first semifinal match will bring together the returning Agricola Red Triangle and the fast rising Herstelling in what is expected to be a keen battle.
Agricola by virtue of finishing second to Grove following preliminary play will start as favourites to win but the party stoppers Herstelling will be equally confident of claiming the win and a place in the final.
The tournament’s second leading goal scorer, Seon Alfred will be a handful for the Agricola defense and along with National Under-17 goalkeeper Quazim Yusuf, Curt Rohee and Denzil Devon, Herstelling will fancy their chances of advancing to their first ever final.
Agricola’s Captain Dakhown Matthews will hope he can continue his inspirational role as leader and scorer but will have to get maximum support from teammates if they are to get past Herstelling.
