The 17th edition of the Annual Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club “Teach them Young”
football holiday camp is continuing with both practical and theoretical sessions. The camp started on Monday 21th July and is being held at the Scot Church ground, Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam and the nearby Prison Officers Sports Club and the All Saints Primary School.
The programme is being held five days weekly from Mondays to Fridays from 09:00hrs -13:00hrs.
The youngsters, which include both males and females, are taught the finer points of the game along with developing their interpersonal skills and relationships. Over 70 youngsters ranging from ages five to 18 are participating.
The practical sessions entails teaching the various ways in receiving, passing, shooting, dribbling, goalkeeping and throwing the football among other points. The are also being schooled in discipline, etiquette, good table manners and general education which will also include sessions on HIV and AIDS. Physical fitness is also an integral part of the sessions.
According to coordinator Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey the main aim of the programme is to have the youngsters better able to appreciate the rules and regulations of the game, improve their knowledge, skills and understanding general sportsmanship and have a better human relationship with others.
They also have an opportunity to improve their discipline generally.
Humphrey noted that they are enjoying themselves tremendously and a number of resource personnel have so far interacted and shared their expertise with the youngsters.
