The police continue to use their initiative in their quest to do things differently to foster
a better relationship with the community at all levels in Berbice. In so doing, Commander Assistant Commissioner Brian Joseph and Deputy Commander Senior Superintendent Marlon Chapman and the rest of the administration of the Police ‘B’ Division in an effort to curb the occurrence of crime in the Rose Hall Town, Corentyne Berbice catchment areas, held a series of interactions in an effort to foster further collaboration with the Rose Hall Town Community in an effort to strengthening the Policing/Community relations.
A number of meetings were subsequently held commencing Wednesday 25th June, 2014 with the leaders and representatives of various youth groups and leaders in the Rose Hall Town area with a view of reducing the prevalence of Crime within the Community, providing training/counseling for youth within community, empowering youth and creating job opportunities, establishing and maintaining continuity of youth groups and increasing community/police relations.
A number of suggestions came out of the meeting to achieve the aforementioned objectives, including holding a Fun Day which would have been hosted by the Rose Hall Town Youth Committee under the theme “Police in Partnership with Youth against Crime”.
A number of novelty events were held including male and female hundred meter races, throwing of the Cricket ball in three categories U15, 19 and open, buns eating race, cricket, and football among other sporting activities.
Community walkabouts, outreach, tours, educational programmes, camps and other activities were held and are being planned between the two sides.
