The Guyana Badminton Association Team attending The Caribbean Regional Badminton Championships (CAREBACO) which concluded in Jamaica yesterday continued on Friday with matches in the Individual Singles
Events at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium University of Technology in Kingston.
Guyana, with the smallest contingent of players, copped eight Medals at the event including one Gold, five-Silvers & two Bronze, even though the other teams had 40 to 50 players in the tournament. The winners all increased their medal count from last year with Abosaide Cadogan who captured Gold in the Girls Under-13 Doubles & 1-Bronze in the Girls Under-13 Singles, collecting Guyana’s lone Gold Medal.
Guyana’s top player was Narayan Ramdhani, who played his best Badminton throughout the tournament and quickly gained the crowd’s support; winning Silver medals in the Boys Under-17 Singles and the Boys Under-17 Doubles.
Priyanna Ramdhani won 2-Silvers & 1-Bronze. In the Girls Under-13 Singles she won Silver and in the higher event (Girls Under-15 Doubles) she copped Silver before taking Bronze in the Under-13 Mixed Doubles. Jonathan Mangra won Silver in the Boys Under-17 Doubles.
The Presenatation was done after the Under-11 to 17 Finals and Medals were presented to the first, second and third placed winners.
President of the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) Gokarn Ramdhani disclosed that the GBA is extremely pleased with the performance of the Team, which he felt was going in an upward direction in the last seven years with the player’s only getting better and Medaling at every international junior event to date.
“The GBA would also like to thank the Media for the coverage they have been giving us throughout the Tour and also like to thank the Sponsors who made it possible for us to keep the Guyana Flag flying high,” Ramdhani said.
