The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) cricket teams’ Schoolbags for Sport Programme has been boosted with donations from Hand in Hand Insurance Company and Len’s Craft Optical. The insurance giants donated 60 schoolbags while Len’s Craft Optical made a financial donation of an undisclosed amount.

The cricket teams – RHT Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Metro Females and Gizmos and Gadgets Under-21 and First Divisions have plans to distribute $1M worth of schoolbags and other educational materials to the less fortunate students in the county of Berbice for the new school term, next month.
According to a release from the club, the main aim is to assist students to stay in school to obtain a solid educational foundation which the club believes is the key to a successful future. RHTY&SC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster expressed gratitude to both Hand in Hand Insurance and Len’s Craft Optical for their assistance.
He noted that the RHTY&SC is the only sports club in Guyana which encourages its membership to do community development programmes and the eight cricket teams on an annual basis carry out close to 100 projects under Education, Anti-Drugs, Charity, Youth Development, Awards, Anti-Suicide and Religious headings with the main objective of making a positive difference in the lives of youths, the elderly and less fortunate.
Marketing Coordinator of Hand in Hand Insurance, Ms. Andrea Khan and Chief Executive Officer of Len’s Craft Optical Mr. Alistair Paris both praised the RHTY&SC for the role it is playing to promote the importance of education.
Khan stated that Hand in Hand supports the message of ‘Yes to Education’ and expressed the hope that the schoolbags would assist youths to fulfill their potential in the classroom. Paris disclosed that Len’s Craft Optical was proud to be associated with the club as it has a rich history of success and achievements.
Distribution of the schoolbags has already commenced and is done under the supervision of the club’s Educational Committee.
