The Ministry of Education, (MOE) is reminding students and parents that failure to return text books and other pertinent school materials can result in students being denied access to their Caribbean Secondary Examination Certification (CSEC) results.
In a statement to the press yesterday, the Ministry noted that while it is cognizant of the complaints by some parents and students regarding the inaccessibility to their results online (via the CXC website), all outstanding school materials must be returned to the respective schools.
In reference to notifications published in the mainstream media between June 18 and 20, 2014, the Ministry noted that all students must return materials loaned by the schools, failing which access to results would be denied.
Notices were also published on the Ministry’s website, and via the Ministry’s facebook page.
The request is in keeping with the Ministry’s Textbook Policy, which states, “Learners must return books before Progress Reports, Examination Results, Recommendations, or References are uplifted.”
The statement noted that the Ministry was forced to adopt this position to offer the equal learning opportunities to the incoming batch of CSEC students.
In addition, head teachers were asked to submit lists of students who had returned all items.
“Head teachers who failed to submit lists or respond by the date given, which was August 8, will be disciplined,”
It was noted that access has been granted in cases where the lists were submitted.
“The MOE is once again appealing to students and parents please make every effort to return all outstanding materials belonging to the respective schools. We look forward to being able to allow access to CXC results online.”
