Two Christian organisations based in New York have collaborated with the Herstelling
Assembly of God Church to provide free medical services to Guyanese.
This initiative has led to five one-day clinics being held at selected communities around the country. The services offered include hypertension and blood sugar testing, as well as treatment for acute medical illnesses.
The Restoration Temple (an Assembly of God branch) and Raphael Ministries (a Christian medical organisation providing free health care to third world countries), have joined forces with a team of local doctors brought together by Dr. Ravindra Shivnandan (Pastor) and his wife, Dr. Michelle Shivnandan, who manages the Herstelling Assembly of God Church.
Yesterday, in excess of 150 persons attended the team’s third clinic at the community’s Assembly of God Church, Herstelling. The group has completed clinics at Yarrowkabra and Santa Rosa.
The team is scheduled to visit Samatta Point today and Land of Canaan tomorrow.
The medical team includes Dr. Kevin Braat, an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist, Dr. Candace Cummings, a physician, Melvin Parasram, a university medical student, and two volunteers, Julia and Olivia Braat.
The local contingent comprises Satyawattie Chan, a pharmacist, Dr. Joanna Sealey, an intern student from Cuba, and three physicians, Dr. Alex Shamlall, Dr. Michelle Shivnandan and Dr. Ravindra Shivnandan.
Restoration Temple has provided the team with pharmaceutical products to distribute at the clinics, and have also started a countrywide “crusade” for Christians.
The team highlighted intentions to conduct similar exercises in the future to assist other underprivileged communities across the country.
