A swashbuckling half century by David Francis (72) with support from Elroy Henry (43) helped Laluni to a commendable total of 154-4 and eventual victory over Soesdyke Uprising when those two teams faced off in the East Bank Cricket Association/Goodwood Racing Service T20 tournament at the Laluni Cricket Ground, Soesdyke Highway Saturday afternoon last.
Early morning showers forced a late start and the organizers eventually opted for a 10 overs reduction with Laluni calling correctly and opting to take first strike. Bowling for North Soesdyke, R. Sarju bowled 4 overs and took 3 wickets for 18 runs.
North Soesdyke endured a torrid time at the crease and were sent packing for 95 in 19.2 overs; Derrick Tajnarine snapping up 5 wickets in 3 overs for a measly 13 runs. Sunil Sarju top scored for the losers with 25 runs while T. Primo scored 23, all in a losing cause.
R. Allen was the next best bowler for Laluni with 2-15 in 4 overs. Earlier, Soesdyke Uprising had earned the right to face off with Laluni after Silver Bullet, the other team in the competition, failed to show up for their encounter one day earlier. The ensuing win by default paved the way for the match against Laluni.
