This year’s Republic Bank sponsored, Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club Summer Camp ended on Friday last and has been deemed a resounding success.
Organised by the Club’s cricket teams with the aim of preparing Grade Six students for entrance into Secondary School system the activity also served to encourage the students to get involved in sports as a way to occupy their extra time.
Senior teacher of Port Mourant Secondary School, Rohan Etwaru who conducted the Camp stated that a total of 56 disciplined and focused students attended the four-week activity. He stated that they have been properly prepared for secondary school.
The students were taught Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, English B, Social Studies and Spanish. They were also exposed to basic coaching in cricket, volleyball and basketball while several lectures were done on areas including Peer Pressure, the Importance of Education, Public Manners and the Importance of Discipline.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, speaking to the students at the closing encouraged them to have a strong mind and positive attitude to education as it was the most important asset a person can obtain.
Education, the veteran club administrator stated is a vessel that breaks down doors and barriers and he advised the attentive youths that the next five years is the most important phase of their lives while urging them to develop a culture of reading, research and listening to positive advice. Foster also expressed gratitude to the Management of Republic Bank for their continued investment in the camp over the past seven years which would have seen close to 500 children attending.
Ms. Nareesa Rahaman was named Best Student of the Camp. Other awards shared out were:

The nine awardees received educational materials for the new school year while each student received a schoolbag under the RHTY&SC Schoolbag for Sports Project.
