Grove and Eccles were crowned champions of the Lower and Central East Bank Demerara district while Uitvlugt Girls and Meten -Meer- Zorg boys registered victories when action in the Annual End of School year Windball champions’ trophy continued recently.
At National Park tarmac, In the Girls final, Eccles overcame St. Anne’s by nine runs. Eccles batted first and scored 49-1 with Player of the Final Shainica Moses scoring 23 and Brianna Inniss 12. Saint Anne’s chasing there target were restricted to 40 -3, Nasha Boyer made 16.
In other matches played, Grove overcame Peters Hall. Peters Hall scored 24-5 taking first turn at the crease while Grove replied with 25 with out loss.
Eccles beat Covent Garden. Covent Garden made 49-3, taking first strike. Onika Persaud 12, Bashaney Prasad 11 and Nazeema Waheed 10 were their leading batters. Brianna Inniss claimed 2-6. Eccles scored 52-3 in reply. B. Inniss slammed 21 and S. Moses 15. Vanessa Persaud took 2-3.
St. Anne’s trounced Grove. St. Anne’s rattled up 59-2 with Collette Welch scoring 18 and Shamika Roberts 12. Grove were restricted for 56-4 in reply. Rebecca Isaacs made 21.
In the Boys category Grove after been invited to bat scored 92-1. Corvin Griffith who was given the tournament most valuable player award, hit an unbeaten 55 (8×4,2×6) and Osaie Jacobs supported with 25 (3×4,1×6).
Saint Anne’s managed 43-1 in reply. John Latchan and Tyron Younge scored 13 and 10 respectively.
In other matches played, Peters Hall beat Eccles. Peters Hall 50-2 with Romario Persaud scoring 34 and Orwin Hunte 13. Eccles replied with 48-4. Rawl Gittings made 12 and Jonathan Samsundar 11. Joshua Jones took 2 wickets.
St. Anne’s thumped Craig. Craig managed 50-3, batting first. Amari Hunte led with 22 and Kobe Robertson got 13. T. Younge captured 2-10. Saint Anne’s responded with 51-1, Younge made 19 and J. Latchan 17.
Covent Garden went down to Grove. Covent Garden posted 60- 3, taking first strike. Brian Mohammed stroked 26, Joshua Thomas 16 and Deno Cupidore 10. Grove scored 62-3 in reply. O. Jacobs top scored with 23, C. Griffith assisted with 14 and Akeem Smith 10. Jeremiah Singh claimed 2-14.
Peters Hall lost to St. Anne’s. Peters Hall batted firs and scored 35-1. Jadan Craig scored 16. Saint Anne’s replied with 36-1 with Tyron Younge scoring 12. Over at the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground in the West Coast of Demerara and East Bank Essequibo zone. Uitvlugt got the better of defending champions Leonora.
Playing in the girls’ category, Leonora batted first and scored 30-6. Annestar Baker captured 2-1. Uitvlugt replied with 34-0, with player of the Finals Marissa Carrol hitting 12.
In the Boys division, Meten-Meer-Zorg defeated Tuschen. Tuschen took first strike and managed 49-4, Player of the finals Nicholas Klass scored 29 (4×6). Meten-Meer-Zorg responded with 52-0, Colwyn Williams led with 26 (3×6) and Verindra Narine 11.
Meanwhile, organizer Alistair Munroe would like to extend his appreciation to the Management of Uitvlugt Estate, Wales Estate, Rose Hall Estate, National Park Commission, Mr. Kennard of Bush Lot Farm Ground, Timehri Red Ground, No. 71 Ground Corentyne, Bath Community Centre, Regional Education Officer Regions 3, 4 and 6, the Umpires, the schools that participated, the Media house and Roger Gilgeous of Stero Sonic.
It is very important to note that the event attracted more than 4000 participants.
