A four-year-old child, who was crushed by truck belonging to the Guyana Power and Light Inc. on Saturday afternoon, lost the battle for his life early yesterday morning.
The child, Delon Henry, and his father Nabert Benn, both originally from the North West District were making their way to their Huis’t Dieren home on a bicycle when the father, who was allegedly drunk, swerved into the path of the motor lorry.
The wheel of the truck crushed Henry’s head, while the father escaped with minor injuries.
Both of them were taken to the Suddie Public Hospital where they were admitted.
Doctor’s at the hospital who performed an emergency operation on the child did not expect him to survive due to the severe injuries he sustained to his head.
The driver of the truck was detained at the Suddie Police Station for questioning.
Henry’s death occurred one week after former Courts District Manager, 33-year-old, Chandanie Das ,of La Union, Essequibo Coast and Delvin Benn died in two separate accidents on the Taymouth Manor and Abram Zuil Public Roads respectively.
