Preparations for the eight annual Guyana Cup Horserace meet has kicked into full swing with the announcement that all is set for the big meet on Sunday August 25 at the Port Mourant Turf Club.
Jumbo Jet by name and nature is huge in whatever it does and as such the Jumbo Jet family and local Business Conglomerate, organizers of the Annual Guyana Cup Horserace event is making a gargantuan investment as it rolls out a sumptuous programme for Guyana’s biggest meet.
The event this year has a mammoth $25M and over sponsorship package, which by far dwarfs all other sports event for this period.
The event, which is being held in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club, will see nine top of the line races being run. There are event for C class horses, one event for three year old horses, two events for two year old horses. There are also top of the line events for horses classified E and lower, G, H and ‘I’ class horses are also big drawing cards along with the J and lower race.
The C1 and lower race, which is the main event, has a staggering $7.5M prize package up for the taking with the winner racing away with a lavish $4M and the Guyana Cup trophy over 1800M. Second place collects $2M, third place gets $1M, while 4th place finisher will be presented with $500,000.
In the Co-feature 1600M event for 3 yrs old horses, bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies, the organizers have put up a mouthwatering $2M and trophy.
The Two year old event for West Indies Bred horses, which has its first prize tagged at $1.5M and trophy, will be run over 1000M.
The E class and lower 1400M event will see the winner racing away with the $800,000 top prize and trophy. The G1 and lower race is a 1200M event where the winning horse will run away with $600,000 and trophy.
The second two year old event is for Guyana bred horses and has a $600,000 price tag along with trophy for the top runner over 1000M. The H& lower 1000M race guarantees the winning horse a purse of $450,000 and trophy.
The ‘I’ and lower race also goes over 1000M with the pole position takings being tagged at $350,000 and trophy. The final race has $250,000 plus trophy at stake for the winner of the J and lower event in another 1200M affair.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers. Entries close on Saturday 16th August.
The organisers have also have put together some interesting incentives for lucky patrons and participants that will be unveiled later, especially for those early entrants and patrons on race day. The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
