Aug 10, 2014 Letters
Dear Editor,
I begin my response to Shaun Samaroo’s letter on me (“My reply to this scandalous column,” KN, October 8, 2014) with a deep feeling – Mr. Samaroo I find to be one of the most offensive and obnoxious persons in this world. I honestly don’t think such a person should be assigned even a modicum of respect.
In his reply to my column, the caption and content of which he fails to mention, I am called all kind of names including maniac. I have no time with libel writs but even if I was to sue, it would not be Shaun Samaroo, whose existence I put no weight on. Mr. Samaroo is so dishonest in his letter that it smacks of extreme repugnance. Dishonest in that he fails to refer to even one word about the nature of the column he rails against
My article was titled, “Karen De Souza accuses Shaun Samaroo of journalistic deceit,” KN, Thursday, Aug 7, 2014. The article dealt with Karen De Souza’s objection to the way Samaroo in the Chronicle reported on her Rodney Commission testimony. According to the lady, there was a propaganda motive by Samaroo, in which Samaroo attributed to her words that did not come out of her mouth
Samaroo is one of those humans who are so enamoured of himself (read his narcissist account of himself on his Facebook page) that he feels he can fool people. He had to avoid the mention of De Souza because he knows the prominence of the woman and her standing in Guyana and that Guyanese would believe her a million times over Samaroo this nation
For the rest of this missive, I will state what Samaroo has said in his letter on me and used his own printed words with dates to show readers how sickening this so –called journalist is. Here now is an enumerated account
1- “My heart resonates with love for the Kaieteur News”
On November 26, 2010, Samaroo became a weekly columnist with Stabroek News. I went through all those columns from that date right up to the present time and never, I repeat never, is there even a single mention of Kaieteur News. Here is what Samaroo has to say about other media houses. SN, April 15, 2012 –”The Stabroek News seems to stand alone in trying its very best to practice professional journalism with depth of thinking.”
SN, Oct 11, 2013 – “Except for the Stabroek News, Demerara Waves and Prime News, the media fails to lift the national conversation.” SN, August 25, 2011 – “The Stabroek News continue to play a crucial role in this country.” My comment – if Samaroo’s heart resonates with love, it is certainly not for Kaieteur News. Since 1990, Samaroo, has never published a word, even a single word in KN. He avoids this paper like the plague.
2- “I founded the Kaieteur newspaper.” In a September 7, 2011 letter in the Stabroek News, here is what Samaroo wrote. “I chose to name the paper Kaieteur Weekend World…within months I resigned…sources were warning me of associating with that crowd.” My comments – in 1990, Samaroo resigned after months of the paper being born. Guyanese know that the paper is 23 years old. Samaroo played no part in what Kaieteur News is today. Maybe he could explain what he means by “that crowd.” His Sep, 2011 letter is a vicious attack on Mr. Glen Lall
3 – “This crass columnist mentions my public praise for Dr. Frank Anthony and Priya Manickchand.” Here are the words of this so-called journalist who called me a maniac. SN, June 19, 2012 – “Priya Manickchand’s role in cultivating and shaping our future is second to none.” SN, March 27, 2014 – “The responsibility for developing a national vision in this generation falls on the shoulders of Ministers Frank Anthony and Priya Manickchand… in the hands of these State officials rests the future of this nation”
My comments – this man has no shame? Not even the most fanatical PPP supporter would be so stupid to elevate these two Ministers like Samaroo did. From which age and time is this man?
4- “I hope the Kaieteur News would exercise responsible journalism.” I ask readers to look who Samaroo writes for? I believe the Chronicle is the most unprofessional and depraved newspaper in the world. Here is what Samaroo had to say of the Chronicle. And the title of his article is, “Saving the Chronicle.” This was as recent as last year when he wrote the following in SN, December 20, 2013, “We cannot let up the struggle to free the soul of the Chronicle.” My comment – the same Samaroo is churning out propaganda for the Chronicle
5- “My writing is as a professional journalist.” My comment – Readers can judge what kind of professional Samaroo is by perusing his letter on me in which I am called all type of dirty names. In his sick letter, Samaroo does not offer one, not even one quote from my column that he objected to. Samaroo is anything but a professional journalist? He is a PPP propagandist
6- “I met with President Ramotar, Roger Luncheon and Anil Nandlall before I took the job.” My comment- did you really take the job or you beg the Government to make you a propagandist for the PPP. And you did a nasty job on a great woman like Karen De Souza.
Conclusion: I leave Guyanese to decide who is a maniac, a jack ass, a barefaced liar but most of all a propagandist for a tyrannical government.
