THE Guyana Bank of Trade and Industry continues to partner with the Diamond Tennis Club in the development of lawn tennis within the East Bank community, as the financial institution will once again be sponsoring the club’s annual Junior Tennis Camp.
The Camp, which is in its fourth year, seeks to train and assist juniors who want to learn the basics of the sport and also those who are interested in returning to the courts after lengthy sabbaticals.
The GBTI Junior Tennis Camp will be held for two weekends, August 9th-10th and 16th-17th, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Bank’s hard court in Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara.
Following last year’s successful hosting, President of the club Ricky Jumana said the camp is expected to attract no less than 50 participants. He noted that the camp is not limited to persons living on the East Bank but rather all outlying communities within the vicinity.
Reflecting on last year’s attendance, the President said: “Participants are usually from the Diamond area and surrounding communities. However, we have had participants from the West Coast, West Bank and Georgetown on previous occasions.”
Over the years, the camp has seen a very significant number of individuals turning up for training, including adults and youngsters of both sexes.
The camp is exclusively sponsored by GBTI and coordinated by the Diamond Tennis Club with assistance from the Guyana Tennis Association.
Anyone who is interested in participating in this year’s camp is asked to contact the Club’s President on 641-0635 or 679- 6233.
The camp would be broken into two segments with juniors training from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m and adults from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Diamond Tennis Club was launched in 2011 when the bank collaborated with the GTA to host the first camp on the East Bank of Demerara.
This initiative provides interested persons the opportunity to play the sport closer to their homes rather than venturing into the city to join a club.
