Two families of Onderneeming and Sand Pit Road on the Essequibo Coast, in Region Two,
are now the owners of new two-bedroom homes complete with sanitation facilities, thanks to the collaboration between Food For The Poor (Guyana) Incorporated (FFTP) and Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited.
The families previously lived with their relatives in extremely poor and cramped conditions
Speaking at the presentation ceremonies of the homes to Melissa Alexis Lett, a single parent with three children and Ron Norton and family, Public Relations Manager of FFTP, Wayne Hamilton, said that the non-governmental organization is extremely thankful for the support afforded by Republic Bank in the construction of the homes. The organization depends on businesses and individuals for donations to accomplish projects of this nature, Hamilton said.
In her address to the gathering, official of the Anna Regina Branch of the Bank, Sereva Rampersaud, said that the financial institution was happy to be a partner in the project and that it is always good for corporate entities to assist in the community.
FFTP said it has already constructed over 3,000 two-bedroom structures, free of cost, for very poor families in the various regions of the country. The organization intends to build 120 homes this year.
In June 2014, 40 families benefitted from the FFTP humanitarian project “Whitewater Community Development Project” where 40 homes were built, a community school was rehabilitated and a new library installed.
