Will play Otis George Memorial match at Banks DIH under lights
New York Blasters, winners of the inaugural 2014 T20 New York big bash tournament, will play a series of cricket matches
throughout Guyana later this month as they open their tour to South America on Wednesday August 13 at Bush lot on the West Coast of Berbice on the recently redeveloped ground.
The second game is fixed for August14 at the Rockaway Cricket Ground in Strathspey, East Coast Demerara, while on August 15 the New Yorkers battle Banks D.I.H at Thirst Park in an Otis George memorial T20 day/night game. The late George, who died last month, was a capable fast-bowling all-rounder who represented East Bank at the first division level and also played for Banks DIH where he was employed.
George played for East Bank with some of the New York based players like former Guyana under-19 left-arm spinner Shameer Sadloo and ex-National under-19 batsmen, Deryck McDonald and Zaheer Saffie.
The NY Blasters then travel to Albion in Berbice where they will face-off with Chesney Sports Club at their Corentyne venue. Former Guyana and West Indies ‘B’ team opener Sudesh Dhaniram, who hails from that village, will do battle with some former and current stars of Berbice. A large crowd is expected to see the former Berbice opener who is still one of leading scorers in the USA leagues, revisit his glory days with thrilling stroke-play. That game is slated for Saturday August 16.
The next day the New Yorkers take on Canal Cricket Club on Canal Number One ground in West Bank of Demerara while on Wednesday August 20, they will be in action at Cornelia Ida, the home ground of another former West Demerara and Guyana batting stalwart, Rabindranauth Seeram. This venue will host the American based team as they oppose a West Demerara select side that comprises of former and current stars. The final game is scheduled for Everest in Georgetown on Friday, August 22, where another packed house is expected.
The team is sponsored and managed by Hafeez Ali of Rockaway Roti Shop and Taxi Service and the touring team reads: Shameer Sadloo, Deryck McDonald, Robert Narine, Shivnan Ramjattan, Sudesh Dhaniram, Zaheer Saffie, Hafeez Ali, Everard Gonsalves, Parsaram Beepat, Hemender Ramdihal, Saud Hossein, Ameer Khan, Hemraj Chanderpaul, Sanjay Dhaniram and Moin Sadloo.
