The man accused of killing a fellow truck driver at Itaballi, Mazaruni River, was yesterday arrested after he was caught sleeping behind his home.
He was identified as Arthur Taylor, 43, called “Bang” of Itaballi, Mazaruni River. This newspaper understands that Taylor was caught at around 06:00 hrs when two policemen, using motorcycles
and two Community Policing Group (CPG) members, descended on him.
The CPG members who were praised for their efforts were identified as Lyndon Durant and Ernest Trotman.
Taylor is accused of killing twenty seven year-old Wayne Johnson of Grand Sand Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
Johnson received a stab wound to his chest Saturday night and was pronounced dead at the Bartica Hospital, where he was rushed hours later.
Reports emanating out of Itaballi, revealed that when Taylor was caught, he had his eight-year-old son with him. The two were reportedly asleep on a mattress behind his home.
His wife has been in police custody since Saturday night in connection with the stabbing incident.
Police has reportedly found the knife suspected to have been used to stab Johnson at the Itaballi landing where the incident occurred.
“He just smiled when he was caught, when he was asked if he ever gave anyone life, he said no, and he said that the man had cut him up,” an Itaballi resident disclosed.
Reports further revealed that Taylor was previously charged with murder over a decade ago and was released after spending three years in prison. He was also involved in another incident a few years ago which ended up with a man’s neck being broken. The incident was deemed an accident and he was never charged.
Residents of Itaballi were quick to note that Taylor was a nuisance within the community, “and he got whatever was coming to him.”
“Bang’s (Taylor) wife went and caused a problem with Johnson and he turned her down or refused her in whatever she wanted. Then she went to her husband ‘Bang’ and told him that Johnson was molesting her, Bang then told her to go home,” another resident explained.
“Bang approached Johnson with the accusations. This caused Johnson to run and he was cornered at the waterfront. Bang stabbed Johnson once to the chest and ‘bubbled’ him under the water so no one could hear him scream. He was left for dead.”
A post mortem examination performed by Dr. Nehaul Singh yesterday revealed that Johnson died from haemorrhage of the heart.
