Returning for their 22nd mission to Guyana, The Guyana Watch medical team commenced their first of seven countrywide medical outreaches yesterday at the Patentia Secondary School, West Bank Demerara.
This year, the team comprises two Dentists; one Pharmacist; a Pediatrician; one Nurse; seven Physicians specializing in internal and family medicine and seven volunteer students, pursuing medical degrees from American colleges and universities.
President of Guyana Watch, Tony Yassin, expressed his delight in providing quality health care to the more than 500 patients from Patentia who turned up to be treated by the team. He said that he was expecting a turnout of at least 3,500 to 4,000 patients during the medical outreach this year.
He explained that the Guyana Watch initiative has been very successful in improving the health conditions of Guyanese, and he hopes to continue the venture in the coming years.
Over the years, the Guyana Watch Medical team has been conducting blood pressure and sugar tests only, but Yassin informed that this year the team will be providing on-the-spot cholesterol readings, with the new availability cholesterol monitoring machines.
He mentioned that a special outreach will be conducted for orphanages countrywide.
Persons who were treated yesterday expressed gratitude for the quality of services and its free availability.
Most were pleased that the medical professionals executed their duties quickly and effectively, allowing all who were present to receive medical attention.
Today, the Guyana Watch Medical and Dental clinic is scheduled to provide free services at the Parfait Harmonie Primary School.
Tomorrow, residents of Leonora and neighbouring communities can access the quality health care services at the Leonora Primary School.
The team will visit Timehri on Thursday to provide their services at the Timehri Primary School, and Rose Hall on Friday, at the Rose Hall Primary School.
Saturday will mark the last day of the team’s mission at the Parika Salem Government School.
