Barbados, who last won a Regional under-19 three-day title two years ago in Jamaica, ended this year’s tournament with a consolation eight-wicket win at Enmore yesterday against the Leewards, who began the final day second to leaders and new Champions Guyana.
Resuming the final day on their first innings score of 254-6 in reply to the 292 made by the Leewards, the Bajans ended on 295 as Shamar Springer took his overnight 118 to 128 before he was bowled by Skipper Jeremiah Louis who had 4-33. Shaquille Martina supported with 2-44 for the Leewards who were bowled out for 119 in their second innings as first innings centurion Kacey Carty top scored with 29.
Matthew Jones (3-19), Chad Williams (3-35) and Joshua Drakes (2-17) bowled well for Barbados who were set 117 for an outright win.
The lads from Bim were led to victory by Nicholas Kirton, who finished one short of his fifty, and Drakes who was run out for 30. The pair set up the Barbados victory with a confident 59-run opening partnership before Drakes departed.
Akil Greenidge (4) was also run out seven runs later before Kirton and Jafari Toppin, who ended on 22 not out, saw their team to their only win in the truncated tournament.
The one-day format bowls off on Monday with Barbados facing-off with defending Champs Jamaica at Bourda, while the Leewards take on the host at Enmore. All matches commence at 09:30hrs. (Sean Devers)
