…father wants children back at Orphanage
Since the publication of the story about the boy at the centre of the scandal which rocked the Berbice Anjuman Orphanage in New Amsterdam, the Child Care and Protection Agency has once more placed the child into custody.
The report had stated that the boy was found wandering the streets, smoking and doing other illicit activities.
On one occasion he was found sleeping in a car around 01:00 hrs. The operators of the orphanage had expressed shock and disgust that the child was being allowed to roam the streets instead of being in protective custody.
They are concerned that the name of the Orphanage might be tarnished further if anything ill befalls him.
The Child Care and Protection agency had stated that the boy was released into the custody of his mother and should have been in her care. However, a welfare officer stated that since the lad and his sister were taken away from their mother due to her inability to care them, the child should not have been returned to her custody without the Agency first determining her suitability.
Head of the Agency, Ms Ann Greene, stated that after further investigations were done, the lad was picked up and taken into protective custody.
Meanwhile, allegations by the troubled boy about five other boys being molested have been proven to be false.
A parent has come forward to claim his children whom he stated were unceremoniously taken away from the orphanage without his knowledge.
Two of his three young sons are aged eight and seven.
The man, Ayube Mohamed Khan, 46, of Mahaica, and a father of eight, wants his children back. In fact, he wants them returned to the said Orphanage where he felt they were being well taken care of. He doesn’t know why they were removed because nobody told him anything even though they have all his relevant contact information.
The man said that he was outraged when he was told that two of the boys were not at the orphanage anymore. “I was very upset, because nobody told me anything, about any rumour going around. I do not believe it because my children have been here for the past two years and they were well treated and taken care of.
Khan had visited the orphanage and the Child Care Protection Agency to get a first hand report of the situation .He was prepared to visit the Georgetown Head Office to get his children back.
He is also prepared to return them to the same orphanage, because he knows that they will be safe.
