Openers Leroy Lugg and Odaine Mc Catty turned in commendable performances to give
Jamaica the advantage on the second day of their third and final round game of the Regional Under-19 3-Day tournament against the Windward Islands yesterday.
In reply to Windwards first innings score of 252, the Jamaicans closed the day on 272-6 after 98 overs to lead by 20 with four wickets intact at the Guyana National Stadium. Lugg stroked 109 and Mc Catty scored 70 in an enterprising stand of 133.
Gidron Pope provided his team with the breakthrough when he had Mc Catty caught by Roland Cato. Lugg then added 64 for the second wicket with Nicholas Walters before he was caught and bowled by Deron Hypoltie.
Walters and Shahid Crooks continued to frustrate their opponents with a third wicket partnership of 40 before Crooks went for 14. Windward Islands fought themselves back into the contest with the wickets of Walters (34), Romaine Morris (06) and Mark Parchment (02), but Ramaal Lewis (16*) and Ryon Burnette (04*) saw their team to the close without further hiccups adding 18 for seventh wicket.
Hypolite has so far taken 2-55, Pope 2-64, Lewis 1-23 and Edward 1-37. Jamaica have gathered 5.1 points and Windwards 2.1 from the contest so far. Today is the final day.
