A gold miner was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) on Friday last after
public-spirited citizens came to his rescue, after he suffered severe injuries when his motorcycle was hit head-one by an overtaking car.
The accident occurred around 21:30 hrs at Liliendaal, Railway Embankment. Reports are that a motor-car driver had overtaken a vehicle in his lane, and crashed into the gold miner’s motorcycle.
Lukenaught Singh, 31, of 36 Atlantic Ville, East Coast Demerara, suffered a fractured wrist and ankle, with ruptured tendons in both limbs.
The miner said that he was informed by doctors that he “would not be able to walk or use his hand, until next year.”
He mentioned that ranks from the Sparendaam Police Station came to the hospital on Saturday, and took his statement. He related that the officers told him that they will wait for him to be discharged in order to proceed with his matter.
However, Singh said he is displeased that the driver responsible for his disability was reportedly released on bail.
According to Singh, the driver should have contacted him, or at least offered him some form of compensation, because he is “suffering for the driver’s mistake.”
“They suppose to take away his licence for recklessness or something…he was not even looking on the other lane when he overtake the vehicle and nearly killed me,” Singh related.
