Guyana thump Jamaica by 11 runs to take Regional U-15 title
Guyana defeated Jamaica by 11 runs in their fifth and final round game to win the Regional U-15 50-over tournament yesterday.
Batting first after winning the toss, Guyana posted 248-7 off their allotted overs at Melbourne. They lost the early wicket of Joshua Persaud (00), but Bhaskar Yadram (13) and Alphius Bookie (37) put together a second wicket stand of 46 to set the foundation. After Yadram was dismissed, Kris Ramnarine and Bookie added a further 28 before Bookie went.

Despite the loss of Kurt Lovell (18), Ramnarine continued to play positively and reached the boundary six times in scoring 54. But it was Stephen Deonarine who ensured the Guyanese defended a decent total. Following the dismissal of Ashmead Nedd (00) Kevin Sinclair (08), Deonarine featured in an unbroken seven-wicket stand of 62 with Colin Barlow who made 26 off 26 balls. Deonarine faced 79 balls in his top score of 60. Raewin Senior snared 2-36.
Even though Raewin Senior slammed a century the Jamaicans fell short as they were sent packing for 237 in 50 overs. Left arm pacer Stephen Kamaladeen gave the Guyanese the breakthrough when he bowled Kirk McKenzie (03) with five runs on the board.
However Senior hit eleven fours and two sixes in scoring 113, but apart from Dominik Samuels with 27, the rest of the batsmen failed to provide the much needed support. Andre McCarthy made 18 and Bryan Brown chipped in with 15 as Yadram captured 3-46, Sinclair 2-37 and Stephen Kamaladeen 2-41.
At Elletson Road, Windwards beat Leewards by seven wickets. Leewards took first strike and scored 189 all out in 50 overs. Joshua Grant led with 42, Zawandi White made 38 while Marcus Duberry and Shevon Jeffers 23 each. Micah Joseph snared 3-21, Urnel Thomas 3-36, Simeon Gerson 2-27 and Jeron Noel 2-30. Windwards replied with 195-3 ion 36.5 overs with Obadele Joseph scoring 54, Kimani Melius 44, Johnel Eugene 32 and Johann Jeremiah 31. Jerrlious Louis took 2-65.
