After being on the run for over two weeks, notorious cow thief ‘Rambo’ was captured yesterday after police made a swift raid in the Sisters Backdam, East Bank Berbice.
According to information, farmer Wazil Bacchus of Sisters Village, lost six cows in a short period of time.
The man and his relatives had suspected that ‘Rambo’ and his gang were responsible for the theft.
The police were informed but when they made checks in the area, the men would flee into the backlands.
Kaieteur News understands that the men were catching Bacchus’s cows under the pretext that they were “pound men” for rice farmers. However, the cows never reached the pounds.
Reports are that ‘Rambo’ had attacked the cattle farmer on one occasion and dealt him several lashes with a piece of wood. He had also threatened to harm the man if he continued to report him to the police.
Yesterday afternoon as the farmer was making checks, he missed another one of his animals and later found the cow tied to a tractor in the backdam. Rambo and members of his gang were in the vicinity at the time.
The police were summoned and a patrol from the Central Station responded promptly. They went into the backdam and were able to arrest ‘Rambo’ and an accomplice before they could flee. Another suspect known as ‘Bunty’ bolted upon seeing the police. The cops gave chase but were unable to capture him.
The farmer commended the Police for their rapid response and subsequent work.
Investigations are ongoing.
