Investigations are ongoing as to the cause of death of 17-year-old Haresh Roth of Number 69 Village, Corentyne. The teen’s body was found early yesterday morning on the No. 66 Public Road. While it was initially suspected that the man’s death may have been as a result of a hit-and-run, investigators are probing further.
According to the man’s uncle, Anand Punwasie, his nephew was last seen on Monday evening when he left home to go and make a purchase. He said that after the young man did not return that evening they became worried, because it was unusual for the youth to leave his village and wander away.
The man stated that he was on his way to the Number 66 Fish Port Complex to purchase fish when he heard that someone got knocked down and was a little further up the road. He did not know who it was and ventured to the scene where a crowd had already gathered. At the scene, he did not get to see the body since the police were telling everyone to move back. They asked him if he knew the man, but he could not say since the body was lying face down and a shirt was tied around the neck. The pants were pulled down to the feet. It was only when the body was turned over that he realized that it was his nephew. His face was bloody and he had injuries to the head and neck area.
He stated that the police said that it did not appear to be an accident and could be a case of murder. The man said that it was strange that the teen was in Number 66 Village.
Haresh Roth, who lives with his uncle, leaves to mourn his four siblings and other relatives.
Roth was a former student of No. 68 Primary School and Tagore Memorial Secondary.
Investigations are continuing.
