In an effort to execute maintenance activities, the Guyana Power Light (GPL) commenced its line
maintenance service. As such power outages are necessary to ensure the safety of workers and customers’ life and property, according to the power company.
GPL noted that Georgetown and sections of East Coast Demerara will experience power outages as the company makes technological advancements under its Development and Expansion Programme.
Works undertaken will include upgrading and servicing switches, jumpers, and main and primary conductors; and changing defective poles.
Throughout Guyana’s landscape, transmission lines are visible as they navigate an incredible range of environments. Maintaining reliability, extending the useful life of transmission lines, increasing electrical energy transmission capabilities, preventing failures, and ensuring employee and public safety are all at the core of performing line maintenance activities. Line maintenance encompasses periodic inspection and replacement of line hardware etc to ensure the reliability of electric service to customers.
GPL’s line maintenance schedule is updated frequently on their website at www.gplinc.net, social media platforms and published in the National press weekly; customers are therefore advised to check the schedule to be informed.
