– says “just a little tweaking needs to be done”
Commander of A-Division, Clifton Hicken has expressed satisfaction with the level of personal security being exercised by businesses along Regent Street, Georgetown.
During a tour on Thursday through the busy shopping area, the Commander and several of his senior ranks met with businessmen and examined their CCTV cameras.
The team advised proprietors on where they should position their cameras in order to get better views.
According to Hicken, the main purpose of the visit was to examine the physical and technical security of the businesses in an effort to protect them against any form of criminal activities.
He explained that the Guyana Police Force is going through a strategic reform and one of the main aims of the force is to emphasize on partnership.
“At my assumption at the helm of A Division we would have gone through a series of partnership programmes, in which we incorporate the business sector. We focus on physical and technical security,” the Commander said.
He added that at the meeting his team advised entrepreneurs that it was important for them to have CCTV cameras if they wanted to protect their business places.
“We had asked them to put up CCTV within the perimeters of their business and as such to compliment that we asked them to enhance the physical security. We have had a series of meeting and today (yesterday) was identified to do the walk around to ensure what we discussed was implemented before we roll over to phrase two which is to have the security sector now involved with the cooperate sector,” Hicken said.
After visiting a few businesses, the Commander said that he was comfortable that his message was getting across. “As we visited these places we recognized that CCTV cameras are in place, just a little tweaking needs to be done.
Among some of the stores visited were Regent Household Plus, American Store, Footsteps and Lucky Dollar.
At the end of the tour, the senior ranks along with media personnel were treated to lunch at the Gravity lounge.
