A man, described as a regular, was on Friday remanded to jail by Magistrate Rhondell Weaver when he appeared before her at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, on a charge of Larceny of Animal.
Navendra Narendra Ramrattan, 45, of no fixed place of abode is accused of stealing one bull branded 72/KC valued at $200,000 and the property of Cyril Chan between July 13 and 18 last at Abary Creek, West Coast Berbice.
According to Prosecutor, Sergeant Godfrey Playter, Chan, who rears cows secured his animals and left the area.
He subsequently checked back on the animals only to find the bull missing. The matter was reported and after investigations, the police arrested and charged Ramrattan.
In court Prosecutor Playter objected to bail citing the nature and prevalence of the offence. He said that the accused normally spends lengthy periods in the bushes in the Abary backlands and is very difficult to get in touch with.
Playter also stated that there are other matters of similar nature pending and investigations are ongoing.
Ramrattan was refused bail and his matter was transferred to the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court for July 31.
