Former President of the Upper Demerara Football Association, overseas based Lindener Rawle Blair in collaboration with Times Square Bar, donated trophies, medals, training cones, balls and other football gear to Eagles FC for the upcoming U16 Round Robin tournament which kicks off on August 02nd at the Christianburg Community Centre Ground at 14:00hrs with a double header.
Former National Footballer and Technical Director Bing Charter praised Mr. Blair for his sterling contribution towards the tournament. Charter said that the business community alone can’t do it and he believes that if the youths are involved in sports they would be kept out of criminal activities.
Charter lauded Blair for his contribution to youth development in football. “Thanks to Mr. Rawle Blair ‘fuh throwing out he belly’ to make this possible and I wish other overseas people would do the same thing so we could go a far way.”
Charter also said this tournament would be an annual event.
Public Relations Officer Dirk Farrell said ten clubs will participate; namely – Eagles, Botofago, Milerock, Net Rockers, Winners Connection, Amelia’s Ward, Vasco, Silver Shattas, I-Star and Blue Berry Hill United.
According to Farrell this tournament began in 2012 but due to circumstances the tournament did not come off last year, but is happy and thankful for the contribution of Rawle Blair and James Steele of Times Square, it is possible this year.
He said ten training cones, a ball and some G series thirst quencher, an energy drink, will be given to each club to assist the Players in preparation for the tournament.
He noted that trophies and medals will be given to the first, second and third place winners. Trophies will also be given to the highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, best defender and Most Valuable player.
The winner’s trophy was donated by Rawle Blair, Richard Whyte and Terrence Pyle all overseas based Lindeners.
