Dear Editor,
We were reliably informed by a senior leader in the PPP that President Ramotar will not call any elections until November 2016 even if it means the diplomatic and economic isolation of Guyana by the ABC countries. Even if a no-confidence motion is passed against the minority PPP regime in Parliament, the president will delay it by taking the matter to the Courts of Guyana. The PPP’s only fear is peaceful street action which Mr. Granger has abandoned and the PPP is fearful of, but even if the people decided to stage protests, the PPP is prepared to fight it, since they believe they have total political control of the Guyana Police Force. After 22 years in power, the bullies would not give up power easily.
With such information out in the public domain, what do the people expect from the Leader of the main Opposition? They expect firm and swift political action, but as we said before, this fight requires political spine from the opposition to stand-up and fight the PPP on all fronts. But some newcomers who suck up to the leader are not interested in putting the country first because they want to advance their own careers. These political grasshoppers have been involved in every party in Guyana before linking up with APNU because they could not achieve their goals in the other parties. If the Leader of the majority Opposition really cares about the people, he should ignore these illusionists and put the country first and demand the following actions from the corrupt and vindictive PPP regime:
1. Constitutional Reform;
2. A 10 percent increase in salaries/wages for the workers;
3. Call Local Government Elections – NOW!
4. Establish the Public Procurement Commission – NOW!
5. Censure the Minister of Finance – NOW!
6. Establish all the Service Commissions including the Police Service Commission so that those officers who are due for promotion can be promoted – NOW!
7. Assent to all the Private Members Bills approved by the National Assembly – NOW!
8. Revoke all Radio Licenses issued by former President Jagdeo and commence a new process that is fair to all;
9. Reform the Police Force and the Judiciary and make them more independent to fight crime and corruption;
10. Reduce VAT by 2 percent
We appeal to the opposition MPs to raise their voices to ensure that the Leader of the Opposition act within 30 days on some concrete deliverables for the people. If the PPP does not act then certainly it is a no brainer that in accordance with the Constitution, a vote of no-confidence must be executed against this corrupt and uncaring regime. No individual, group or government should hold a nation at ransom for their own financial benefits. And the opposition cannot allow these Freedom House bandits to continue to rape the treasury. They have to end the Jagdeoites reign of power now.
After three years of extremely poor services especially in health care, education, and social services from the PPP, how much more support can the majority opposition continue to give the regime? After three years of the PPP oppression, how much more can the people take? After three years of poor governance, how long will the opposition allow this continue? After three years of crime and banditry against the people, how long more will the opposition allow the people to suffer? After three years of raping and pauperizing the country, how long before the opposition take to the streets? And after three years of ignoring the wishes of the people, how long will it take the opposition the to react? And after three years of selective use of the Constitution by the PPP regime, how long more will the opposition take before putting an end to it?
