Investigations are still ongoing by the five member Disciplinary Committee which was set up by the People’s National Congress Reform, to probe the “incident” between APNU’s Parliamentarian Vanessa Kissoon and People’s National Congress (PNC) General Secretary, Oscar Clarke.
When contacted yesterday, two members denied that the committee had agreed that Kissoon would have been suspended for three months. Early yesterday, at least one online news agency stated that the disciplinary committee had recommended that Kissoon be suspended for three months.
Kaieteur News was told that the investigations are still being conducted and there has not been a definitive action that would be taken. Kaieteur News was told that Kissoon did not show up for the hearings.
According to reports out of the party, Kissoon, a Member of Parliament representing Region Ten, was suspended after she reportedly got into a shouting match with the General Secretary of the PNC in the presence of several other party members and those who were at Congress Place recently.
Sources within the party had told Kaieteur News that the matter was blown out of proportion in the way it is reported on in the media. It is hoped that once the investigation is completed the truth would be known about what really transpired.
According to reports, an argument erupted after Clarke requested the keys to the PNC Linden office from Kissoon. One source close to the party said that Clarke had been continuously asking Kissoon for the keys, but was being given various excuses by her.
The party had reportedly appointed someone, Sandra Adams, to overlook and maintain its Linden office and as such needed the keys which were allegedly in Kissoon’s possession.
The source told Kaieteur News that following Clarke’s request, “all hell broke loose and Kissoon became very disrespectful. She was shouting and carrying on, and it was loud. She was even rushing up to the General Secretary as if she wanted to fight and had to be pulled away by other staff members at the PNC office,” Kissoon was later suspended from the party.
Following the suspension, Opposition Leader David Granger was accused of acting outside of his purview. However, Granger has maintained that he acted well within his authority as Leader of the PNC as is stated within the party’s constitution.
Granger has said that his decision was supported by the Central Executive Committee of the party. Kissoon has been alleging that she is being treated “unfairly”.
The Disciplinary Committee was headed by longtime party member Alan Munroe, who was supported by members Malika Ramsey, Christopher Jones, Cheryl Sampson and Lance Carberry.
