The Berbice Volleyball Association in its continuing efforts to attract more females to the sport will be holding a one day competition for females in the Ancient County on Sunday August 10th at the Port Mourant Training Centre (PMTC) Court, Corentyne.The competition is being sponsored by volleyball enthusiast, Arianna Bacchus who is a grade 8 student of the ISA Islamic School of East Street Georgetown. Arianna who is the daughter of National Cycle Coach, Hassan Mohamed , says she is impressed with the work being done by the BVA but would like to see more females playing in competitions, hence her decision to sponsor a competition.The competition is open to all females attending schools in the Berbice area and teams are expected from Lower Corentyne Secondary, J.C Chandisingh Secondary, Port Mourant Secondary, Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary School, Canje Secondary and Winifred Gaskin Secondary.At stake in the competition are trophies for the first, second and third placed teams. Outstanding individuals including best Setter, Spiker, Server and MVP will also be presented with accolades.The action is scheduled to commence at 10:00hrs and all teams are urged to be punctual.Meanwhile, the BVA is continuing to hold coaching sessions for females (especially under-16) at PMTC & PM Secondary with the aim of identifying talent to form an Under-16 female squad.Persons interested in joining the sessions can contact Godwyn Allicock on tel 337-4774 or Levi Nedd on tel. 641-9592.
