A 19-year-old fisherman was yesterday fined for stealing a quantity of cash from an East Bank Demerara shop owner.
Tyson Garnett appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, charged with stealing $60,000 cash from Desiree Boston on July 20 at her Covent Garden Sea Dam, East Bank Demerara shop.
The teen pleaded guilty and explained “when I went into the shop I saw it and I pick it up. I hide it, but couldn’t find it back.”
Garnett told the court that he has a pending matter before the courts for fighting with his mother.
The case was being prosecuted Corporal Aduni Inniss who did not reveal the details of the crime.
Magistrate Azore then fined Garnett $75,000, failing to pay which, will result in him being imprisoned for three months.
