Jamaica are in a comfortable position to take first innings points from Barbados in their first round game of the Regional Under-19 3-Day tournament which commenced yesterday.
After bowling out Barbados for 120 in 46.2 overs, Jamaica were 106-5 off 45 overs at stumps with Ramaal Lewis on 19 and Abijai Mansingh on 10.
Barbados’ decision to bat at Everest Cricket Club backfired when Odean Smith had Dikembe Wilson (01) taken by wicket-keeper Romaine Morris and Lewis sent back Leniko Boucher (02) to leave the score at 23-2.
Lee-Germon Gaskin (27) and Akil Greenidge added 19 for the third wicket before Greenidge was caught and bowled by Nicholas Walters for nine. Barbados never recovered despite a 22-run seven wicket stand between Matthew Jones (13) and Shamar Springer who top scored with 31. Keon Harding chipped in with 13 towards the end as Lewis bagged 5-47 from 19.2 overs and Walters 3-21 from 11.
Leroy Lugg and Odaine Mc Catty gave Jamaica a bright start with a stand of 62 before MaCatty was stumped off Chad Williams for 16. Williams then accounted for Ramone Francis (04) and Mark Parchment (01) as Jamaica stumbled to 69-3.
However Lugg continued to take the attack to the bowlers but just after looking set for a half century he was stumped off Williams for 42 with the score on 76. Neil Persaud then had Romaine Morris (06) taken by Boucher who had a fine day behind the stumps with four dismissals before Lewis and Mansingh saw their team to the close.
Williams has so far taken 4-15 from 13 overs and Persaud 1-30. Jamaica have so far acquired 4.1 points and are trailing by 14 runs with 5 wickets in hand. Barbados have picked up three points to date.
