– hatched robbery scheme with prostitute
Diligent police investigation by ranks of the Police B Division has lead to the arrest of a 19-year-old in connection with the murder of Guysuco Field foreman Ravindranauth Tirka, whose body was found last Tuesday at Springlands, Berbice.
The suspect, a labourer, is said to have colluded with a sex worker to lure Tirka to the area where the victim was robbed and strangled. Sources said that the teen is expected to be charged today.
Tirkha,53, also called ‘Engine’, was found sometime around 05:30 hrs last Tuesday lying face-down near a popular ‘backtrack’ route, with blood oozing from his nostrils.
His money, a gold band worth $200,000, his identification card and Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card were missing.
Police later found out that the Guysuco employee had visited a bar at Springlands and had asked a bar maid to help him solicit a sex worker.
It is alleged that the teen hatched a plan with the sex worker to lure Tirkha to the Springlands boat landing and relieve him of his valuables.
On reaching the area, the teen allegedly robbed and strangled his victim.
Tirkha’s wife had stated that he had left home around 18:30 hrs. After he failed to return home by 19:00 hrs as promised, she made several calls to his phone, but got no response.
His lifeless body was subsequently found the following morning.
