Stationery giant’s Metro Office and Computer Supplies has renewed sponsorship of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club Female cricket team. At the company’s Main Street, New Amsterdam branch, Marketing Representative Chetram Sookra handed over a cheque worth $160,000 to the club’s Secretary/CEO, Hilbert Foster to seal the deal.
Foster expressed gratitude to the management and staff of the company which has been supporting the club’s female team since its formation in 2008. The team has won national and Berbice championships over the years has produced a total of 16 national and 30 Berbice players at the junior and senior levels with six of its members recently being part of the Guyana Under-19 team.
These players are Plaffina Millington, Erica Batson, Teniesah Cort, Shabike Gajnabi, Shauna Vanderstoop and Christine Quintyn. Among the main players produced by the club are West Indies players Erva Giddings and world record holder Shemaine Campbelle.
Foster noted that the game needs sponsorship in order to expand. He thanked Chief Executive Officer of Metro Ms. Avie Lindee for her continued confidence in the club and reassured the company that they would continue to represent its brand with discipline, commitment and success.
Last year, the Metro Female team and the club’s other seven cricket teams successfully completed over 90 personal development projects/programme with the main aim of making a positive difference in the lives of youths, the elderly and the less fortunate.
Metro Marketing Representative Chetram Sookra in brief remarks stated that Metro was delighted to be associated with the RHTY&SC, an organisation which he described as a household name with a reputation of being highly successful. He stated that the relationship between the two organisations has been mutually beneficial while expressing confidence that the female players would continue to be positive role models.
A proud Sookra stated that under Metro’s sponsorship, Shemaine Campbelle was able to become the first Guyanese female player to score a regional and international century and to also clinch the 2013 Senior Sports Women Award.
The other official sponsors of the RHTYSC cricket teams are Farfan and Mendes, Bakewell, DDL Pepsi and Gizmos and Gadgets.
