The 17th edition of the Annual Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club “teach them Young” football August holiday camp will be staged this year from Monday 21th July to Friday 22nd August 2014 at the Scot Church ground Princess Elizabeth road New Amsterdam and the nearby Prison Officers Sports Club and the All Saints Primary School.
The programme will be held five days weekly from Mondays – Fridays from 09:00hrs -13:00 hrs.
The organisers are catering for youths four years and up and both boys and girls are invited to attend.
During the camp the youths will be taught the finer points of the game which included both theory and practical. The programme also caters for the developing of their interpersonal skills and relationship.
The practical sessions will entail showing the youngsters the various ways in receiving, passing, shooting, taking, dribbling, Goalkeeping and throwing the football among other points. The youths are also expected to be schooled in Discipline, etiquette, good table manners and general education which will also include sessions on HIV and AIDS. Physical fitness is also expected to be an integral part of the sessions.
According to coordinator Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey the main aim of the programme is to have the youths better able to appreciate the rules and regulation of the game, improve their knowledge and skills and understand general sportsmanship and have a better human relationship with others and improve their discipline generally.
Humphrey also stated that during the camps the youths will be involved in exchange visits and at the end of the camp they will be presented with certificates, while the more outstanding players will be selected to participate in a tour to the other parts of the country where they will participate in a number of goodwill games. He is expecting a good response as school is out and the programme has now become a part of the youths annual out of school package.
Some of the personnel and coaches that will be involves in the sessions are former national players Adrian ‘Sugar foot’ Forde, Kendrick Bowry, Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey Phillip ‘Pine’ Carrington and others including Randy Sears, Nigel Felix, Cliff Peters and Seon Bristol.
Senior military and paramilitary officers including Assistant Commissioner Brian Joseph-Commander of Police B division, Senior Superintendent and second in charge Marlon Chapman, Senior Superintendent of Prisons and Officer-in-charge of the New Amsterdam Prisons Linden Cornette and B Division Fire Officer Campton Sparman among others expected to attend and impart their knowledge during the packed programme.
Meanwhile, the organisers are seeking the support of the general public and the business sector for assistance especially with footballs to make the programme the necessary success it usually is.
