A fireman employed at the Guyana Fire Service for 17 years, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with wounding a stranger he confronted in Charlestown.
Stephen Wellington, 35, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Ann McLennan to a charge, which stated that on June 3, 2014 at Charlestown, he unlawfully wounded Jevon Glasgow, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
His lawyer, Clive Ford, told the court that the police had released the defendant on his own recognizance. He requested reasonable bail.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, offered no objections.
Adrian Thompson, a lawyer representing Glasgow’s interest, said that the incident occurred at Glasgow’s residence at Charlestown. He sought and was granted an order restraining Wellington from approaching within 500 yards of Glasgow’s residence.
Magistrate McLennan placed Wellington on $100, 000 bail.
The matter was adjourned until July 21, 2014.
