Off spinner Plaffiana Millington grabbed five wickets without conceding a run off seven overs
as Berbice crushed Essequibo by 9 wickets in the second round of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Senior Female Inter County 50-over tournament yesterday.
Essequibo were sent packing for 40 in 24.1 overs after they decided to bat at Everest Cricket Club ground; they found themselves in early trouble when pacer Subrina Monroe trapped opener Natayo Elexy (00) lbw with only one run on the board.
Kumarie Persaud and Sheneigh Calvan added 13 for the second wicket which proved to be the best partnership of the innings. However left arm seamer Erva Giddings bowled Persaud (06) to trigger a steady procession.
Millington who bowled with good control and variation then had Calvan taken at midon for 7 and Meyon Boston (04) caught at short cover to leave the score at 24-4. Giddings then accounted for Daveena Goberdhan (05) and Amrita Mohabir (00) as Essequibo fell into further trouble at 31-6.
Millington was virtually unplayable and mopped up the rest of the batting as Essequibo were bowled out in the second hour of the game. Giddings finished with 3-14 from four overs while Munroe and Steffi Rodney had one each.
Berbice lost Katana Mentore, caught and bowled by Kumarie Persaud for ten in the third over, but Melanie Henry (16*) and Shemaine Campbell (10*) saw their team home in 7.3 overs as they ended on 41-1. Persaud finished with 1-21 from four overs. Millington was named player-of-the-match.
Berbice will now take on Demerara in the final round tomorrow at the said venue from 09:30 hrs. The Umpires are Nandkumar Shivsankar and Yosef Yisrael with Edward Bowen as stand by. (Zaheer Mohamed).
