The inaugural Republic Bank sponsored Scrabble competition organised by the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) has been deemed a success.
Winner of the Senior Students category was M. Thomas of the New Amsterdam Multilateral School with Tashaka Walrong of Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary 2nd and Jonathan LaCruz of J.C. Chandisingh Secondary, 3rd.
Ram Goberdan of Berbice High School won the winning prize for the Junior Students category while Joshua Beepat of Lower Corentyne Secondary and Junior Seepersaud were 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
The Teachers’ category was keenly contested with Berbice High School Teacher Lazina Mohamed squeezing past Althea Menity of J.C. Chandisingh Secondary and Carl Vanier of CCHS.
Each of the winners was presented with a trophy and $15,000 while the runners-up also received trophies and special prizes.
RHTY&SC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster speaking at the presentation ceremony at the sponsor’s Rose Hall branch stated that they were proud to be associated with the tournament which attracted participants from most of the secondary schools in Region 6 while expressing the hope that the game would develop on a wider scale in the schools.
Republic Branch, Rose Hall Branch Manager Harry Dass Ghaness in remarks shared that the Bank and the club have an excellent working relationship. He expressed pleasure that the scrabble tournament was a huge success.
Stating that scrabble is a game that assists in widening the educational capacity of players, Ghaness urged the participants to work towards fulfilling their potential in the classroom.
The RHTY&SC is extending gratitude to Republic Bank, The Ministry of Education and Mr. Paul LaCruz for making the competition a success.
