While the basic facilities have been given a year-end deadline at the Leonora Synthetic Track and Field Facility, which is now in its fourth year of construction, the eight lanes to complete the rubberised track are being sprayed.
Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Alfred King, had told the media that the plan is to have all basic utilities at the track in place by year end. King had stated that those will include, lights, running water and basic seating.
The facility, which commenced construction in 2010 had a number of delays and setbacks over the years and is expected now to cost US$5M to complete, at the time of the last update on the cost of the facility last year.
The construction of Guyana’s first facility was included in a budgeted amount of $392,500,000 million for four areas four years ago, but it was unclear then how much was specifically set out for the construction of the Synthetic Track and Field Facility.
