Battle Port Kaituma in final
The fourth edition of the Digicel Secondary school’s Football Tournament climaxes in Moruca with what is anticipated to be a riveting Region One final as all Roads lead to the Kumaka Recreation ground today.
Another Capacity crowd is anticipated today when defending Region One Champions Santa Rosa Secondary put their title on the line against Port Kaituma after inflicting a mauling on Wauna School yesterday in the final preliminary round match.
Watched by a crowd, which did not dwindle despite yesterday being the start of the work week, Santa Rosa demolished the Wauna defence to win by an emphatic 8-2 margin on another hot day in the Hinterland Village.
But the game was not as one sided at the margin of victory suggested and the defending champs must have been ‘gearing up’ for a hard day at the office when Mican Henry fired one past the Santa Rose Custodian after one minute of action in the battle.
But the visitors had to wait until the 71st minute to score their second Goal in the second half. By that time the score line was 8-1, leaving Wauna with the near impossible task of scoring at least nine goals in 19 minutes since no extra time is allowed in this competition.
A hat-trick from Keith DaSilva (22nd, 24th, 50th) lead Santa Rosa’s charge into their second consecutive Zone final and able supported by Goals from Terrence Chappelle (26th), Brandon Phillips (33rd), Alonzo Abraham (60th) and Dwayne Rebeiro (69th). This was after an own Goal by a Wauna player had compounded their team’s woes.
