— on a mission to become household name
With some of the tastiest products on its shelves, a multi-million dollar bakery has been added to the developing atmosphere of the East Bank Demerara locale. Although the establishment officially opened its doors a few months ago, it has already taken the local market by storm, even outmatching some of its competition, both in terms of price and quality.
The newest business venture represents an approximately $25 million investment and is owned by Yazib Chintamani also popularly known as Doolie, with the latter ‘pet moniker’ being adopted as the name of the bakery as well.
Moreover, Doolie’s Bakery, situated at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, opposite Gafoor’s Land of Canaan Building Materials Shopping Complex, is swiftly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the bread and pastries making arena.
Speaking to this publication recently, General Manager at Doolie’s Bakery, Vinetta Singh, disclosed that the idea behind the introduction of the entity was not merely to add a bakery to a section of the country that had none, but to offer products that are tantalising to the taste buds while at the same time fitting comfortably into one’s budget.
With a lengthy line of scrumptious pastries and bread made with both whole wheat and white flour, the bakery is one that is intended to cater to a significant cross-section of the country, ranging from the East Bank of Demerara to Greater Georgetown and even the West Coast and West Banks of Demerara.
Doolie’s products have also already made their way to the shelves of some major supermarkets in the city including Mattai’s and Ashmin’s.
Although only a few months have passed since it became operational, Singh informed that there is no doubt that Doolie’s Bakery has a place on the local market.
However, she disclosed that it was no easy task getting the venture started. In fact she revealed that it was at least two years in the making.
And there were yet more challenges at the initial start-up stage including that of finding properly skilled persons to employ.
Nevertheless, today the bakery boasts some of the best in the field, a staff that amounts to just about 20 individuals.
But in spite of the fact that it is likely to remain faced with yet another challenge, which translates into hefty production costs due to electricity consumption, Singh assured that “Doolie’s bakery is here to stay.”
“We, at some point down the line would like to become a household name and provide our bread and pastries to most, if not all, homes in Guyana,” Singh considered as she outlined futuristic plans for the establishment.
Moreover, she is appealing to the public to not only try the products for taste and affordability but also to help in making them even better.
“We are opened to any suggestion…if people don’t like a specific line, we would like them to tell us about it and we will work to meet their needs,” she assured.
Currently the products available at Doolie’s Bakery include: plait bread (large and small), tennis roll (large, small), pan bread (white and wheat), slice bread (white and wheat), hot dog, burger, butter flap, cheese croissant, pine tart, cheese roll, salara, buns, cinnamon roll, black cake, chester cake, pine slice among others.
