Despite the inclement weather the Alness Race Track, which has been out of action for close to two years, is set and ready for racing action today.
According to the organizers all is set for horseracing action to return to the track, which is one of the better racetracks in the country, when that entity holds a grand one day horserace meet today at their Alness, Corentyne, Berbice venue.
The distance for the races have been shortened with the D and G class races being 1200 M events while the other events will be 1000 M affairs.
There are seven races on the day’s card with close to $5M up for grabs including cash, trophies and other incentives. So far over 55 horses have entered. There are a number of feature events on the day’s cards with the race for animals’ classified D3 non winners for 2014 and E and lower over 1200M with a first prize of $500,000 being the feature race. Among the horses entered in that event are California Strike, Run Nana Run, Monsoon, Swing Easy, Jack Is My style, Bridal Stone Corner, and Crazy Hyde among others.
The G and lower event over 1200M with a first prize of $300,000 and trophy will see the likes of Feels like Gold, She So Special, Silent Night and Bridal Stone Corner among others.
Most of the other races on the programme have full entries with the likes of Savion, Iron Man Mary Ann, among other entered to participate.
The other races on the day’s programme are the ‘I1 and lower1000M even for a $250,000 winner’s money and trophy. The animals in the ‘J1’ class event will be competing for $180,000 winners money over 1000M.
There is a race for J3 and lower horses which will see them running over 1000M for a winning take of 150,000. There is another J3 and lower event this time for maiden animals (which never won a race) over 1000M for a winner’s money of $140,000 and trophy.
The final event on the programme is for K class horses for a winners money of $150,000 over 1000M.
Sponsorship on board are from Banks DIH, Guyana Tourism Authority, Trophy Stall and Shariff Business enterprise and Racing Stable. With their well known ability in bring off outstanding and successful events, the organizers have vowed to make this occasion a memorable one and set the stage for the rest of the year.
Outstanding individual performers including top Jockey, trainer and stable will be presented with accolades compliments of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the organizers.
Over 50 horses have so far entered to take part in the day’s activities.
