An unbroken fourth wicket stand of 78 between Javelle Glenn and Michael Frew guided Jamaica to a seven-wicket victory over host Trinidad and Tobago in the second round of the regional Under-17 50-over tournament yesterday at Bon Accord, Tobago.
Trinidad and Tobago batted first and were bowled out for 124 in 24 overs. The home team found themselves in early trouble at 25-2 losing the wickets of Jordan Warner (02) and Dejourn Charles (06).
Keagan Simmons and Kirstan Kallicharran (19) took the score to 42 before Simmons went for 20. His dismissal prompted a collapse which saw the host being reduced to 56-6. However Brandon Maraj scored and unbeaten 25, Bryan Boodram chipped in with 22 down the order to see their team to their eventual total. Frew and Tyrone Daley picked up three wickets each while Devaraine Rowe and Glenn had two apiece.
Openers Kashawn Beale and Jordan Hill set the Jamaicans on course with a partnership of 36 before Hill was dismissed for 19. Kallicharan then removed Beale for (10) and Brad Barnes (07), but Glenn and Frew batted their team to safety as they ended on 125-3 in 26.2 overs. Glenn stroked 40 not out while Frew finished on 32. Kallicharan took 2-23.
Windward Islands overcame Leeward Islands by 36 runs at Shaw Park. Windwards were bowled out for 162 in 34.3 overs after they were inserted by their opponents. Christian Charlery and Anil Matthew gave their team a solid start with an opening stand of 88 before Charlery was LBW to Philo Wallace for 36.
Matthew soon followed for a top score of 55 which came off 66 balls, laced with nine fours. Apart from Emmanuel Stewart with 35 and Nick Elibox (10) no other batsman managed double figures as Zubin Deyal, Karima Gore and Jaidel Richardson captured two wickets each.
The Leeward Islands were bowled out for 126 in 33.4 overs in reply. Ross Powell and Dmitri Adams (25) added 36 for the second wicket after opener Tyrone Williams went for nine. After Powell was removed by Joshua Mann for 29, Leewards lost a few quick wickets, but Richardson (16) and Gore (12) tried to keep their hopes alive with a seventh wicket stand of 31 before Ryan John ended their resistance.
Darel Cyrus was the pick of the bowlers with 4-20 while John claimed 3-12 and Mann 2-14. Meanwhile, At Louis D’Or, rain forced abandonment without a ball being bowled in the game between Guyana and Barbados. The competition continues today.
