Over the last weekend at the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) July Sprints Meet held at the National
Aquatic Centre a number of records were broken, we have mentioned already the exploits of 7 year-old Aleka Persaud and today we share with you the achievement of 8 year-old, Raekwon Noel.
The extremely talented young and hardworking swimmer, who attends the Green Acres School, swam in the Boys 8 & Under where he shattered three records.
Noel broke the first of his records on Friday July 4 in the 100m Freestyle setting a new time of 1:19.87, erasing the old mark of 1:20.80 which was set by another talented young swimmer, Leon Seaton.
One day later, Noel, not satisfied, went on to achieve his second record in the main race of the day, referred to as the Blue Ribbon event. It was the 50m freestyle which he swam with all guns blazing to touch the wall and take the record in a time of 34:53 from his friend Leon Seaton who held the previous record of 35:09.
Noel who wasn’t quite finished claimed the last record in the final event of Saturday July 6. He set a new mark in the 50m butterfly of 39:20. He erased the old mark that was achieved by Ronaldo Rodrigues of 40:18 set back in 2004.
It was a happy day for Noel’s mom and dad and his teammates and club officials of the Dorado Speed Swim Club.
