Police Sergeant Sohan Ramdat was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Zamela Ali at the
Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, charged with being illegally in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Ramdat who was represented by attorney at law Sandil Kissoon was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Ayesha Gibbons, successfully argued for Ramdat to be denied pre-trial liberty, despite stirring arguments by his attorney.
It is alleged that on Sunday last at a wedding house at Cane Grove, Mahaica, Ramdat was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and 14 live rounds of ammunition. This was after he had allegedly brandished the weapon menacingly while dancing among the guests.
A report was made and ranks of a police mobile patrol under the command of a female Inspector responded and arrested Ramdat.
