– departs today for Bermuda
The Guyana Junior Squash team is anticipated to depart today to participate in the Junior Caribbean Squash Championships which is scheduled to be held in Hamilton, Bermuda from July 13-19.
Guyana is the defending Boys, Girls and Overall Team champions and will seek to win an unprecedented tenth straight Overall team title at these championships.
Following is the list of the players who will represent Guyana at the championships.
Boys Under-13: Shomari Wiltshire and Daniel Islam
Boys Under-15: Alex Cheeks
Boys Under-17: Ben Mekdeci and Alec Melville
Boys Under-19: Nyron Joseph and Jean Claude Jeffrey
Girls Under-13: Makeda Harding
Girls Under-15: Rebecca Low and Sarah Lewis
Girls Under-17: Larissa Wiltshire and Taylor Fernandes
Girls Under-19: Akeila Wiltshire and Victoria Arjoon
Managers are Garfield Wiltshire and David Fernandes while the Coach is Carl Ince.
The following two persons, Gabby Fraser and Anthony Islam will accompany the team to participate in the individual championships. The team received a special send off from its Corporate Sponsor Digicel and another main sponsor Ansa McAl yesterday.
Several other corporate sponsors have made contributions to the Guyana Squash Association to help defray the costs of the teams’ participation in the tournament. Some of these other sponsors include Guyana Olympic Association, National Sports Commission, Bounty Farm Ltd, John Fernandes Ltd, Hand in Hand Group, Beharry Group of Companies, ReadyMix Concrete Ltd and Modern Optical Services.
